9th Annual Hip Hop Summit:

10333252_863768590319391_4945911912226778307_oThe 9th Annual Hip Hop Summit Coalition sponsored by Project Rebound Inc. will be presented to the community on Sat., July 26, 2014, at the historic Liberty Theatre, 813-8th Avenue, Columbus, GA. The theme is: Back To The Basics.” The event is entertaining and educational; and it has coined the phrase, edu-tainment, promoting non-violence, clean lyrics and entrepreneurship. This year, they will have the annual Liberty District Produce and Crafts Marketplace for “kidpreneurs” between the ages of 3-18. The threefold program includes the Panels, Street jam and Talent Showcase. A Special Performance will be seen featuring Turquoise Entertainment. Summerfest 2014 Is Here!

Summerfest 2014 Is Here! Columbus, GA – The 39th Summerfest Cultural Festival, Health Fair, Sports Expo, Youth Talent Explosion, Back to School Supplies Giveaway and Anti-Bullying Rally is here. The event is Friday, July 25, 2014, 1-5 p.m. in the fabulous Frank Chester Supercenter, 1441 Benning Drive, Columbus, GA where Mr. Tim Marshall is the director. Partners/Sponsors are: The Columbus Times Newspaper, Frank Chester Supercenter, AmeriGroup, Coca-Cola USA, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity-Lambda Iota Chapter, Clearchannel Radio Stations, Midtown Cakes, Netta’s Little Treasures, Overflo Beauty and Barber Shop, Poppi’s Ensemble of Entertainment, Gwennetta Wright, Councilman Jerry “Pops” Barnes, WOW, Baby Waves, City of Columbus-Department of Parks and Recreation, CC-The Christian Clown, Doc Atoms, Girls Inc. and Mr. Carl Pearce-Bad Rap Productions. New Jack from Clearchannel will be on the 1’s and 2’s. Speakers for the event will be: Jeremy Scott Hobbs, the Chattahoochee Better Way Foundation; Councilor Jerry “Pops” Barnes; Tonoa Thornton, Fit-T-A-T; Poppi- Poppi’s Play Day (the Cure for Childhood Obesity); NAACP and Felicia L. B Dance Ensemble; Poppi The Git Down Clown; the Ophelia DeVore Performing Company, CC-The Christian Clown; Katlin Hill, Katlin Productions; Mr. Cardiotone and Granval. It was seen on The Dee Armstrong Show, WLTZ-TV 38 (NBC). It was the highlight on the Monday Baby Jay and Georgia show on WFXE Radio Station. Seen on the DJ Chip Show (WLTZ-TV 38) were Mrs. Carol Gertjegerdes, Councilman Jerry Pops Barnes, Miss Halle Williams, Mr. Jordan Myricks, Mr. Jayden Williams and Mrs. Chinetta Richardson and her daughter. The Breakfast Brother, Mr. Roy Robertson on WOKS Radio Station discussed the event with Mrs. Carol Gertjegerdes and Mr. Granvel Hopkins. Summerfest all takes place on Fri., July 25, 2014, 1-5 p.m. at the Frank Chester SuperCenter, 1441 Benning Drive in the city where Mr. Tim Marshall in director. There will be talent, fashions, school supplies, health fair, anti-bullying messages, voter registration, cultural exchange and sports messages. It is FREE to the community so you are encouraged to come. All giveaways are available while the supply lasts. There will be snacks for refreshment and door prizes! Mr. and Miss Summerfest is on again and clip the coupon in our newspaper for your favorite person. In addition, to the standard events, there will be a Short Story contest. The contest is open to men, women and children of all ages. The Cultural Festival is always a part of Summerfest because the cultures of various ethnic groups are important for one’s self-esteem and confidence. So many African Americans have mixed heritage including tracing roots back to Africa as well as Asia, Europe and South America. There will be an exhibition basketball game, as we have had in the past and there are several outstanding men and women in the city. Special guests will be coming from other areas including Atlanta and Richland, GA. Summerfest is FREE! Friendship Baptist Church “Summer Camp 2012″

Friendship Baptist Church, 101 Friendship Street, Hamilton, Ga presents “Summer Camp 2012”. Camp will run for 4 weeks, Jun 4 – Jun 29, 2012, Mon – Fri, 8:00am – 5:30pm daily. It is offered for youth ages 4 – 14. Summer Camp specialties will include: Arts & Crafts, Bible Study, Outdoor & Indoor Games and Activities. Nutritional breakfast, lunch and snack served daily. There is a $15.00 Registration Fee for Summer Camp. Camp is $45.00 per child per week. Delta Life Development Foundation, Inc., and the Columbus (GA) Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Presents Third Annual EMBODI Seminar

COLUMBUS, GA: May 21, 2012 – The Delta Life Development Foundation, Inc. (DLDF), and the Columbus (GA) Alumnae Chapter (CAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., will present its third annual EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) seminar on Saturday, June 2, 2012, from 9:00am to 12:00pm at the Delta Life Development Foundation House located at 4925 Forrest Road, Columbus, Georgia.


Both informal and empirical data suggests that the vast majority of African-American males continue to be in crisis and not reaching their fullest potential educationally, socially and emotionally. EMBODI is designed to address these issues through dialogue, and recommendations for change and action.

The program will entail panel discussions on Education and Military Careers, The Legal System and Money Management.  Guest Speakers Include: Lt. Col. Jeffrey L. Fletcher, Lerone Harper, Consumer Credit Counseling Service, Deitrich Jones, Columbus Police Department, Attorney Raymond Lakes – Office of the Public Defender, Quincy Wade – Columbus Bank and Trust, and Richard Wells.

The seminar will be moderated by Dr. Eddie Obleton of Columbus State University.

Lunch and a limited supply of T-shirts and Books will be provided to the attendees.
