Photos by Edward Lamboy By Staff Writer Columbus, GA – The Annual CMN (Children’s Miracle Network) Reindeer Run took place this year on Sat., Dec. 8, 2012, right before the city’s Annual Christmas parade. The event began with registration and number pickup. Warm-up was between 8:45-8:55 a.m. At 9 a.m., the Reindeer run began. By 10 am, awards were presented and those who wanted to see the Christmas Parade were able to do so. The 2012 Reindeer Run was presented by Rivertown Pediatrics, PC and Neonatology Associates of Columbus. The event sponsors were McDonald’s Restaurants, Carmike Cinemas, Columbus Tape & Video and Sibley Heart Center. The host was Country’s Barbeque. This year, Children’s Miracle Network provided funding for: Hematology/Oncology space renovation and equipment-$150,000; Giraffe Omni beds-$105,000; Neonatal Transport Truck-$265,000; Neonatal Incubators-$157,000; Neonatal Ventilators-$93,000 and Pediatric Grand rounds-$10,000. All of this takes place at The Medical Center hospital.
Friendship Baptist Church, 101 Friendship Street, Hamilton, Ga presents “Summer Camp 2012”. Camp will run for 4 weeks, Jun 4 – Jun 29, 2012, Mon – Fri, 8:00am – 5:30pm daily. It is offered for youth ages 4 – 14. Summer Camp specialties will include: Arts & Crafts, Bible Study, Outdoor & Indoor Games and Activities. Nutritional breakfast, lunch and snack served daily. Delta Life Development Foundation, Inc., and the Columbus (GA) Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Presents Third Annual EMBODI Seminar
COLUMBUS, GA: May 21, 2012 – The Delta Life Development Foundation, Inc. (DLDF), and the Columbus (GA) Alumnae Chapter (CAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., will present its third annual EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) seminar on Saturday, June 2, 2012, from 9:00am to 12:00pm at the Delta Life Development Foundation House located at 4925 Forrest Road, Columbus, Georgia.
Both informal and empirical data suggests that the vast majority of African-American males continue to be in crisis and not reaching their fullest potential educationally, socially and emotionally. EMBODI is designed to address these issues through dialogue, and recommendations for change and action.
The program will entail panel discussions on Education and Military Careers, The Legal System and Money Management. Guest Speakers Include: Lt. Col. Jeffrey L. Fletcher, Lerone Harper, Consumer Credit Counseling Service, Deitrich Jones, Columbus Police Department, Attorney Raymond Lakes – Office of the Public Defender, Quincy Wade – Columbus Bank and Trust, and Richard Wells.
The seminar will be moderated by Dr. Eddie Obleton of Columbus State University.
