Columbus, GA – It was that time of year again and The Controllers Civic and Social Club, Inc. held their Annual Christmas Party at the Columbus Iron Works Convention and Trade Center. Their motto is: controlling our own destiny. Their current president is Mr. Will Simmons. This yearly event is their kickoff for our upcoming fundraisers leading up to our Annual Easter Shoe Give-A-Way held each year the week before Easter. Their Annual Christmas Party has been held at the DAV on Airview Drive in the past years. This is the first time having this event at the Trade Center. They wanted to upscale the event and show appreciation to all their loyal supporters in Columbus, Phenix City, surrounding areas, and out of town guests. This year’s event was a smashing success!!! The attendance was close to 400 people. The event was opened with prayer by the Controllers’ Chaplain Mr. Henry Byrd. A moment of silence was done in remembrance of the past president Mr. Eddie Roberts. At exactly ten 0’clock the lights were dimmed and everyone was asked to stand, hold hands and reflect in silence on the past year. This is yearly tradition. There were numerous prizes given away during the night. The first ten ladies through the door received diamond earrings from Harris Jewelry, donated by the Vice President Mr. Stanley Wright. The food was served buffet style from ARAMARK CATERING. The chef and staff did an outstanding job and the food was superb. There were three photographers: Background photos were provided by Mr. Pete Pearson and the roving photographers were provided by Columbus Times and Mr. Johnny Farris. The music was provided Mr. Robert Jones. Our VIP Guests in attendance were: Congressman Sanford Bishop-Honorary Member; Councilman Bruce Huff; Dr. Willie Perry-Honorary Member; Mr. Walt Edney-Lifetime Member; Mr. Vernon and Mrs. Amanda Presley-Past Members; Ms. Elaine Gillespie; Ms. Vikie Dikes-Commander American Legion Post 267; Ms. Hazel Taylor-Adjutant American Legion Post 267; Mr. Carl Nelson-3rd District Commander; Mr. Phillip Sasser-DMS Mortgage; and members of Modern Free and Accepted Masons of the World, Inc. The decorations were provided and arranged by Ms. Joann Flantroy, life long partner of Mr. Eddie Roberts. Ms. Flantroy did an outstanding job; the decorations were full of Christmas Spirit and the room was just elegant.
